Hello and thank you for visiting my website! I hope it helps you get to know who I am, not just as a professional, but also as a person!
Although I have only worked as a school counselor for four years, I have worked with youth, specifically at-risk youth, in some capacity for about ten years. I am so excited to have found the profession of school counseling, a position that embodies my core values of advocacy, service, and equity. This position allows me to deliver school-wide interventions to benefit all students, combined with targeted student supports, for those who need it the most. I believe that schools are obligated to prepare students for the next stage in their lives, whether it be first grade, middle school, high school, college, or the world of work. As a school counselor, I enjoy taking a leadership role in facilitating this transition.
There have been many factors that have contributed to my drive and passion for this kind of work, but it really boils down to the people in my life. I grew up in a family that stressed the importance of hard work, education, and service. As a student, I have been inspired by teachers, professors, and school staff members who have noticed my strengths and encouraged me to pursue something larger than myself. Reflecting on my experiences with these individuals, I realize that I want to be that person for the students I serve. I continue to be inspired every day by teachers, administrators, and school staff members, who work tirelessly to support students and to make school a better, more friendly and productive place. These people remind me every day why I chose to work in public schools.
Although I grew up in Colorado, in 2012, I moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where I lived for about 4 years. My partner and I moved there to explore a new area and broaden our horizons. I’m so grateful we made the leap, because this move was important in my path to becoming a school counselor. Oregon is where I found my first position at a school. I instantly fell in love and saw so much potential in public education to address social, mental health, and advancements in America. After learning about school counseling by attending conferences and talking with working school counselors, I knew it was the career of my dreams. I began my master’s program at Oregon State University quickly after. Four years later, after working as a school counselor for three years, I am even more passionate about the power of education and very satisfied with my career choice.
In the fall of 2017, I broadened my horizons and accepted a position at Jeffco School District as a Social-Emotional Learning Specialist (SELS) at Connections Learning Center, an alternative middle school in Golden, Colorado. This position has been such an amazing step for me. I have been challenged to improve my practices to serve the social-emotional learning needs of students and staff alike. I love this job and feel very passionate about working with the students and staff at CLC.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it helped you get to know me a little bit better!
